Rich Result

Rich Results are Google features of the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), that go beyond the standard blue link.

Rich Results are always based on structured data that Google collected. There is one exception to this rule, which is the Featured Snippet.

Examples of rich results include Events, Products, Articles, Image Carousels, or Profile Pages.

The Role of Rich Results in KGO

Optimizing your information for the Google Knowledge Graph 1, means you want to dominate the SERP for a search of your brand name. While the primary target is a knowledge panel 2 and knowledge cards 3, any additional rich results are always welcome.

For example, there is a huge overlap between images in the knowledge cards and images in an image carousel or images in the image filter tab.

Footnotes

  1. A knowledge graph is a graph that expresses knowledge in its simplest form.

  2. Knowledge panels are information boxes that appear on Google SERP when you search for entities (people, places, organizations, things) that are in the Google Knowledge Graph

  3. Knowledge cards are a grid of small information cards across the top of the SERP. Knowledge cards are only shown for entities in the Google Knowledge Graph
